Our Lady of Pellevoisin

In 1876, in the small village of Pellevoisin, France, a 32-year-old woman named Estelle Faguette experienced a series of profound Marian apparitions. Estelle was terminally ill with tuberculosis and peritonitis. In her desperation to survive so she could continue caring for her aging parents, she wrote a heartfelt letter to the Virgin Mary pleading for a cure. In response, Our Lady appeared to Estelle fifteen times between February and December of that year. During the initial visions, Mary comforted the dying woman and promised that she would be healed. True to the Virgin's word, Estelle experienced a sudden, complete, and medically inexplicable recovery—a miracle that served as a powerful sign of the apparition's authenticity.

During the subsequent apparitions, the Virgin Mary revealed herself as a mother of profound compassion, telling Estelle, "I am all merciful and the mistress of my Son." Mary expressed deep sorrow over the spiritual apathy of the time, specifically lamenting the neglect of the sacraments and the lack of reverence in prayer. A central element of the Pellevoisin apparitions was the revelation of the Scapular of the Sacred Heart. Mary appeared wearing this white scapular, which depicted the heart of Jesus, and instructed Estelle to promote its devotion. She urged the faithful to seek peace, pray fervently, and trust entirely in the merciful heart of Christ.

The events at Pellevoisin left a lasting spiritual legacy that continues to resonate with the faithful today. Estelle Faguette lived a long, healthy life following her miraculous cure, dedicating herself to spreading Mary's message of mercy. The apparitions currently hold the status of Diocesan Veneration; the local bishop officially recognized the miraculous nature of Estelle's healing, and the Vatican subsequently approved the Scapular of the Sacred Heart. Today, the shrine of Our Lady of Pellevoisin remains a tranquil place of pilgrimage, drawing believers from around the world who seek physical healing, spiritual renewal, and the profound peace promised by the Virgin Mary.
