Our Lady of Łężajsk

In 1578, in the quiet forests of Leżajsk, Poland, a humble and pious woodcutter named Thomas Michalek experienced a profound spiritual encounter. While working among the trees, Thomas was graced with a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who appeared to him radiating celestial light. During these sacred visitations, Mary spoke directly to the simple laborer, instructing him to have a church built on that very spot so that the faithful could gather to pray and receive God's graces. She assured Thomas that through her intercession, those who visited the site with a sincere heart would find comfort, protection, and spiritual healing.

Fearing ridicule and disbelief, Thomas initially hesitated to share the heavenly message. When he finally spoke of the visions, he faced severe skepticism and was even imprisoned by local authorities who doubted his claims. However, the truth of the apparitions was soon affirmed through a series of miraculous signs. A mysterious, brilliant light was frequently seen hovering over the forest stump where Mary had appeared, and a spring of water with miraculous healing properties emerged at the site. These undeniable signs, coupled with numerous reports of physical and spiritual healings among the townspeople, eventually convinced the local clergy and the community of the apparition's authenticity.

Today, the apparitions of Our Lady of Łężajsk hold full Vatican approval, standing as a testament to Mary's enduring maternal care. In direct response to her request, a magnificent basilica and a Bernardine monastery were eventually constructed on the hallowed grounds. The sanctuary now houses a deeply venerated miraculous painting of Our Lady, drawing thousands of pilgrims each year. The legacy of Thomas Michalek's visions continues to resonate centuries later, transforming Leżajsk into a vital center of Marian devotion in Poland where believers still flock to seek solace, healing, and a deeper connection with the divine.
